Celia Brazier private view

Saturday 4th April, 2015 at 2pm

Celia studied at the West of England College of Art in Bristol and went on to teach art and ceramics in Bristol, Porthcawl, Cardiff and Swansea where she now lives. The exhibition brings together work from the 1950's to the present day. Celia has worked in a wide range of media including drawing, painting and various printmaking techniques to produce a very comprehensive and vibrant body of work. The exhibition can be viewed at Oriel Bach until the 11th April and the gallery is holding a private view on Saturday 4th April between 2 and 4pm. Come along and view the work, meet the artist and perhaps buy a piece to take home. Celia is also a volunteer at the gallery and can be contacted through the gallery's email address

The show also includes a selection of handcrafted ship models made by Alex Brazier.

See you at the private view this Saturday between 2 and 4pm!

Terrain

When I asked the girls this morning what type of artists they would most likely call themselves, without hesitation they said 'landscape artists'. Now, asking a fine artist (especially a third year student who’s engulfed in dissertation and final deadlines), such a question has quite often left me waving to the tumbleweed as it rolls past or either left standing with aching feet after what seems like an eternity of listening to the babble of artistic terminology as the person answering battles with their own hardship of self description. These three girls however are straightforward and non rehearsed. Landscape artists who simply draw inspiration from the outdoor terrain and recreate, recapture and remould it within their final pieces. Canvases resembling slate, slate taking place of canvas and mosaic montages of muted blues and greens. The outside world brought indoors has often been favoured amongst the art world, from renowned Japanese artist Hasegawa Tohaku’s ‘Pine Tree’ screens to Stephen Kettle’s sculptures in slate and these girls who may be considered fledglings in this pernicious world of art, are already well on their way to securing their place.

Up and coming Exhibitions

Oriel Bach is going to be joining M.A.D in swansea for some fun activities in April (watch this space for more information!). We've also got Ian Banham's first ever solo exhibition showcasing his semi-abstract landscapes of South Wales in May.

Also, if anyone has any ideas for an 'open exhibition', inbox us at littlegallery@hotmail.co.uk. So far we're thinking of a collaberation with Oystermouth Historical Association to base an exhibition on the history of Mumbles (but lets not make it too stuffy now art lovers, and blow the cobwebs off the ol historical aspects)!

Peace!
